Queen Lear is a gritty, contemporary reimagining of Shakespeare's King Lear, set in the vibrant yet turbulent streets of Rio de Janeiro. The series follows Queen Lear, a fierce and charismatic leader of a militia that controls drug trafficking, prostitution, and loan shark operations in Rio's impoverished communities. As she decides to divide her criminal empire among her three daughters, the power struggle that ensues reveals deep betrayals, fractured loyalties, and the tragic unraveling of both family and empire. Against the backdrop of Rio's favelas, where beauty and brutality coexist, Queen Lear explores timeless themes of power, greed, love, and madness in a raw, contemporary light.
